The people have spoken.

Ariel Troster is heading to Ottawa City Hall as the new councillor for the Somerset ward.

Catherine McKenney served the ward for the last two terms and put their name in the 2022 mayoral race.

Troster was one of three candidates running in the ward, and was elected with over 61 per cent of the votes.

Troster told The Sam Laprade Show on Oct. 27 that the ward's previous councillor, Catherine McKenney, leaves quite the legacy.

McKenney was one of 14 candidates running for mayor.

“Catherine to me, was a model of public service,” Troster said. “They were an incredible advocate for homelessness and affordable housing in our neighbourhood and I hope to continue their legacy.”

Troster said priorities in the ward include making rental housing more affordable and preserving the affordable rental housing that exists in the community.

“We need to have a diverse downtown community and that people feel they can stay and be part of Somerset ward,” said Troster.
