Ottawa’s annual Christmas parade returns in person for 53rd year

By CityNews Ottawa

The Help Santa Toy Parade is returning in person to the nation's capital for its 53rd year on Saturday, Nov. 19.

In 2021, the parade was scaled back and virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year's parade will start at 11 a.m. in front of Ottawa City Hall on Laurier Avenue, proceed west on Laurier Avenue, turn south on Bank Street and end at Lansdowne Park.

“It's awesome,” said Cameron Taylor, chair of the Help Santa Toy Parade on The Sam Laprade Show with guest host Derick Fage on Nov, 18 about being back live and in-person. “We are really excited to have crowds out to collect toys and put on a good show for Ottawa.”

The Ottawa Professional Firefighters Association (IAFF) said in a release that unwrapped toys will be accepted as a form of donations and people can donate at all fire stations.

People can also make cash donations along the parade route, or online at the Toy Parade website. Cashless and tap donations will also be accepted at the parade.

New this year, there will be a cashless option for donations.
