Superintendent with Ottawa Police Service charged with sexual assault

A superintendent with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has been charged with multiple offences, including sexual assault, resulting from an investigation spearheaded by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). 
 
The OPP arrested and charged Mark Patterson, 53, with sexual assault, sexual assault (abusing a position of trust and power of authority) and breach of trust. 
 
The charges stem from incidents alleged to have taken place between December of 2018 and May of 2022 involving one person. 
 
The OPS was made aware of the allegations in June of 2022 and Patterson was immediately suspended. 
 
Patterson was suspended on June 15, 2022.
