The Ottawa Mission's new food truck is on the way, and should be arriving any day now according to the organization's chief executive officer (CEO).
Peter Tilley, the CEO of the Ottawa Mission, told Wake Up With Rob Snow on Dec. 16 that thanks to generous support from donors, the Ottawa Mission will have a new food truck to help serve those in need.
The Mission launched its food truck program in September 2020 and started with one truck and five stops while serving 500 meals per week. Since that time, it has expanded to two trucks and 32 stops serving over 7,000 meals per week.
“At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were pockets in this community that were starving and going without food,” said Tilley. “We started delivering food and discovered that so many people across Ottawa needed support.'
Tilley noted that the Ottawa Mission's original food truck that was donated is a 2001 model.
“With that comes with breakdowns at time which cause communities to go without food,” he added. “We were able to raise close to the $300,000 needed to put a food truck on the road and it should be arriving any day now.”
