QCH reporting high volume of patients resulting in significant wait times

The Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is reporting a high volume of patients resulting in longer wait times in its emergency department (ED) for people on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

QCH officials said in a Twitter threat that 30 people were waiting in the hospital's emergency department on the morning of Jan. 4.

“Patients are presenting with higher acuity – meaning they’re sicker and require more care and some need to be admitted,” the tweet said.”This has unfortunately resulted in patients needing to wait longer for care – which is long, tiring, and hard for everyone. The ED team sees the sickest patients first to ensure they get the urgently needed care they require.

The tweet said ED staff are doing their best to care for everyone.

“The ED team is working extremely hard to care for everyone and get patients who need to be admitted, admitted,” the statement said. “You will be seen. There is a significant wait time, but we are actively working on it and ensuring those who need care, get it. Thank you for your understanding, Ottawa.”
