Panda Game set to be played on Sunday this year

By Anil Jhalli

The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released its football schedule for the 2023 season, and there is one notable change.

The annual Panda Game between the Carleton University Ravens and the University of Ottawa Gee Gees is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1 at TD Place.

The game between the two university rivals is usually played on a Saturday.

The Ottawa Redblacks are playing at home, which is the TD Place, against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Panda Game has been marred by controversy over the past few years over loud parties and celebrations in the Sandy Hill area.

In 2022, over 80 provincial offence notices were issued for open alcohol and Ottawa By-Law handed out over 100 parking tickets as well.

In 2021, following the football game between the University of Ottawa’s Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens, celebrations quickly escalated. Thousands of students flooded the Sandy Hill neighbourhood, and some students could be seen on social media flipping a car.

Seven people were taken to hospital with non-serious injuries.
