Ottawa city council has voted to continue its discussion on the top of electric buses.
Coun. David Hill moved a motion asking for the issue to go back to a special transit commission meeting on Feb. 9 so that more councillors can have a chance to look at the plan.
Councillors voted 20 to 5 in favour of sending the report back to transit commission for more debate. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and councillors Glen Gower, Tim Tierney, Cathy Curry and Sean Devine voted against the idea.
The project will be the subject of a transit commission meeting and public feedback will be included.
The federal government announced on Jan. 19 that is investing $350 million into Ottawa's electric bus program.
Ottawa's Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) is expected to replace the city's entire fleet of over 940 buses with electric ones by 2036. OC Transpo currently operates four electric buses.
The money will go towards supporting 350 buses, 232 charging stations and related infrastructure.
The total estimated cost of the city's electric bus program is $974 million.
