Montfort named one of Canada’s top research hospitals

By CityNews Ottawa

For the eighth straight year, the Montfort Hospital has been named one of the top research hospitals in Canada.

The list of research hospitals is compiled by Research InfoSource Inc, a Canadian research and development information company, as part of Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals report.

This year, the Montfort is ranked 40th nationally.

This success is made possible thanks to the ongoing work of Savoir Montfort (ISM), the knowledge institute in charge of coordinating research at Montfort, in addition to clinical and administrative internships and continuing professional development.

The ISM, which has made collaborative research its guiding principle, aims to be the reference for Francophone research and education in the country. The ISM has seven research chairs and 111 member researchers, 50 of whom are clinician scientists.

With its interdisciplinary approach, the ISM continued to develop research within Montfort during the year 2021-22. ISM researchers benefited from a budget of 11.8 million dollars, carried out 86 research projects and 15 clinical trials.

This continued development has often led to the improvement of certain services at Montfort. An example is a project involving Ann Salvador, Wendy Peterson, and the Family Birthing Centre clinicians to improve the Postnatal-Care-at-Home care program.

This program is an innovative and integrated model of care between doctors, nurses and midwives that offers families an early discharge option from hospital. It provides care and support to families throughout their transition from hospital to home. The program has the potential to improve family experience and health outcomes for both mother and newborn, and provides a 24-hour safety net for families during the first seven days postpartum at home.

Initially funded by ISM and the Provincial Innovation Fund Oversight Committee (IFPOC) this research later received funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to support its sustainability.
