Ottawa Public Health issues frostbite warning

By Anil Jhalli

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is issuing a frostbite warning as the capital is expecting the coldest stretch of temperatures of the winter season this weekend.

Environment Canada has already issued a extreme cold warning for Ottawa as well as a snow squall watch.

According to the weather agency, the temperature will dip down to a low -29 C overnight, with a windchill of -40.

It's expected to be even colder for Friday, Feb. 3, with a forecast high of -26 C and a windchill of -42.

Environment Canada said the snow squall watch begins in the afternoon on Thursday, and into the evening.

During that time, Ottawa is expected to receive two to five centimetres of snow.

OPH said the frostbite warning is in effect overnight until further notice.

More information can be found here on the frostbite warning.
