One person facing charges after police discover drugs being smuggled into Collins Bay institution in Kingston

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has charged one person in connection with drugs being smuggled into Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.
On Feb. 10, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) staff detained an individual suspected of bringing contraband into the institution.
Investigators seized contraband, including suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Darren Blanchard, age 47 of Leeds and Thousand Islands Township, has been charged with breach of trust, contrary to section 336 of the Criminal Code.
The accused is also charged under the Corrections and Conditional Release Act with possession of contraband beyond the visitor control point in a penitentiary, section 45(a) and delivering contraband to an inmate, section 45(c). He is also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with two counts of possession of a schedule-1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, section 5(2)
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on March 30.
