It’s good news for homeowners along the Ottawa River.
According to the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board (ORRPB), water levels have peaked between Mattawa and Hawkesbury and are now slowly declining.
Floodwaters are expected to drop by 30 to 40 centimetres this week as the forecast calls for warm, dry weather.
Also, boating has been prohibited on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River to prevent boat wakes from further damaging flooded properties.
Meantime, in Gatineau, it could be several weeks before local roads closed by flooding can reopen.
The City of Gatineau says the structure of some roads have been damaged by flood waters and that crews can’t assess road conditions until surfaces are dry.
At this time, 44 streets remain closed.
