Almonte General Hospital emergency department re-opens after temporary closure

By CityNews Ottawa

The Almonte General Hospital’s emergency department has re-opened after being closed overnight Thursday.

In a release, the hospital said the temporary closure was due to a shortage of nursing staff, but the rest of the hospital operated as usual.

“Patient and staff safety is our main priority,” said Mary Wilson Trider, president, and CEO, in the release. “Our dedicated teams at both Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital continue their tireless efforts to ensure we have the necessary staff to support our community with their health care needs.”

The hospital reminded anyone requiring immediate medical attention to call 9-1-1 and paramedics will direct them to the nearest emergency department

The closest emergency departments are:

  • Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital
  • Arnprior Regional Health
  • Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital
  • Queensway Carleton Hospital

Virtual healthcare is also available through Telehealth Ontario by calling toll-free 1-866-797-0000 or TTY 1-866-797-0007. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
