Severe thunderstorm watch ends for Ottawa

By CityNews Ottawa staff

A severe thunderstorm watch issued earlier today by Environment Canada has officially ended for the capital.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada said in its statement earlier today.

The weather agency said conditions were able to produce wind gusts of up to 90 km/h while also producing nickel to ping pong sized hail.

“Scattered thunderstorms are expected to move through the region this afternoon ahead of a cold front,” said Environment Canada. “The main hazards with any storms will be wind gusts to 90 km/h and up to ping pong ball sized hail.”
