Talks set to continue Friday between striking workers and Hydro Ottawa

Talks to resolve the ongoing Hydro Ottawa strike are set to resume on Friday as negotiations between striking workers and the company resume.

The two sides met earlier this week, and the union, IBEW Local 636, said on social media Tuesday that some hopeful progress was made after an offer was presented to Hydro Ottawa on Monday, July 17.

Bryce Conrad, president and CEO of Hydro Ottawa, said in a release that he doesn’t know how long it will take to reach an agreement he’s hopeful the two sides can find a way forward.

“We have re-engaged in discussion with the IBEW, and I am hopeful we can find a way forward,” expressed Conrad, “While I do not know how long it will take to reach an agreement, I do know that we are closer to an agreement by talking than not, and I am looking forward to the next meeting.”

The almost 400 union workers have been on strike for nearly a month now for what they say are safety issues, workplace environment, and pay inequities.

Hydro Ottawa said they remain grateful to its customers for their patience during this time as they “focus remains on daily operations and making every effort to minimize the impact of this labour disruption on the customers we serve.”
