City holding additional Lansdowne 2.0 public consultation

The City of Ottawa is hosting additional consultation sessions regarding Lansdowne Park’s revitalization project.

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) presented its $330 million proposal to redevelop the Lansdowne area in April of 2022, a plan that includes a new event centre and north side stands as well as 1,200 residential units, 10 per cent which is to be affordable housing.

Some members of the community and Shawn Menard, the city councillor for the area, have expressed concerns over Lansdowne 2.0 and have asked for more public consultation.

In a memo released to Ottawa City Council members on Monday, July 24, Don Herweyer, the interim general manager of planning, real estate, and economic development for the City of Ottawa noted that the City has conducted several consultations with the public, and there will be more opportunities for people the weigh in on the project.

City of Ottawa staff have launched the project website, hosted three public information sessions on April 27, May 17, and July 13, 2023, have been holding a series of coffee chats, have met with the Ambassadors Working Group, and have released various public surveys,” the memo said. “Staff are also currently hosting a series of pop-up events on site to encourage resident participation and engagement, and to gather additional feedback.”

Residents will have the chance to provide feedback on the project on Sept. 6. Those who wish to attend, can register here.

The following is a tentative schedule for committees and council to allow for additional public engagement and community consideration:
• August 15, 2023 – Accessibility Advisory Committee
• October 18, 2023 – Joint Finance and Corporate Services Committee & Planning and
Housing Committee
• October 23, 2023 – Built Heritage Committee (information report)
• October 25, 2023 – Ottawa City Council
