Ottawa’s recreation schedule online today, registration opens mid-August

By Andrea Bennett

The City of Ottawa is encouraging residents to register soon for recreation and cultural programs geared at all ages and skill levels, offered in both English and French, in-person and virtual.

Starting Monday, July 31, residents can browse the City’s Fall recreation and cultural programs schedule and get an early start on planning activities for those cooler months ahead.

Programs range from skating and swimming lessons to fitness training, team sports, dancing, and music lessons.

“Try a group sport and learn leadership and fair play skills on and off the rink, court, or field,” said the City of Ottawa. “Nurture your love of the arts through painting, dancing, music, or cooking. Improve your social well-being and mental health through yoga, Pilates, martial arts, and other mindfulness practices.”

Those interested in developing their artistic side can sign-up to taste and dance their way through the fall months. Experience flavours of Thailand, Europe, and Latin America with cooking classes or learn new dance moves through various courses from belly dancing to Argentine tango, ballet, and ballroom.

Adults and children can also learn to paint and draw with watercolors and acrylics and create clay masterpieces in pottery classes. Arts courses will be hosted at the Shenkman Arts Centre and Nepean Visual Arts Centre.

A variety of fitness, art, martial arts, cooking, junior science and technology programs for children, and more are offered virtually. New this fall are hybrid classes offered at Routhier Community Centre where residents can join online or in-person to help balance those busy schedules.

Parents can keep their kids – between the ages of four and 12 – busy on Personal Activity (P.A.) days and before and after school, with programs geared at care outside of the classroom. Kids will have the chance to participate in arts and crafts and games, all while making new friends. While registration for P.A. days begins August 16, registration for before and after school care is already open.

The City is offering the opportunity for parents to book single days for after school programs. Ottawa’s Inclusive Recreation Team also provides integrative support for children with special needs.

The City of Ottawa is recommending residents follow registration tips below:
