Ottawa police investigating suspicious death after body removed from Rideau Canal

A body was recovered from a section of the Rideau Canal after a passerby alerted officers.

The Ottawa Police Serivce (OPS) told CityNews Ottawa that they were alerted by a person who spotted the body in the water on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m.

Marine, Dive, and Trails Unit members were dispatched to Canal Lane, north of Wellington Street, and recovered the body.

The person has not yet been identified, but police are treating the death as suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing.
