The Alexandra Bridge is closing to motorists for one year beginning in early October.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) announced on Aug. 30 that the Alexandra Bridge is closing to vehicles beginning on Oct. 2 at 2 a.m. for what the federal government is calling “essential rehabilitation and repairs to keep the bridge safe and in service until deconstruction.”
PSPC said the closure will begin after the reopening of the Chaudière Crossing.
One lane will remain accessible for pedestrians and cyclists during the closure of the bridge.
“As previously announced, the boardwalk and articulation joints will undergo repairs that will address the safety of the bridge,” PSPC said in a release. “We will also stabilize the bridge structure so it can be taken apart safely, as part of the replacement project. Once the project is complete, the boardwalk will provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.”
