No injuries reported as firefighters battle blaze in Orleans neighbourhood

Firefighters responded to a fire coming from a home in the 800 block of Ashenvale Way in Orleans.

Ottawa firefighters responded to a fire in a neighbourhood in Ottawa’s east end on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) said it received multiple 9-1-1 calls just before 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon reporting heavy black smoke coming from a home on Ashenvale Way in Orleans.

Crews discovered the fire to be in the basement of the home, but were required to evacuate shortly after arriving at the scene due to a potential floor collapse.

The fire started in the basement and firefighters used a basement window to extinguish the flames before re-entering the structure.

The fire was under control at 14:58 and due to the quick response, the fire was stopped before it could spread to the attached townhome. No injuries have been reported.
