Ottawa firefighters quickly knock down fire at Alsafeer Mart on Bank Street

There are no injuries after a fire at a Middle Eastern restaurant in the south end Wednesday morning.

Just before 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, a 9-1-1 caller reported visible smoke and flames coming from the Alsafeer Mart at 1656 Bank Street, between Heron and Walkley roads.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) were on scene within four minutes of being dispatched and quickly got to work battling the blaze.

Two full searches of the building were completed by firefighters and it was confirmed there was no one inside at the time of the fire.

The fire was declared under control within 15 minutes and crews kept it from spreading.

Firefighters remain on scene checking for extension. The fire was declared under control at 5:35 a.m.

A fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the origin and cause.
