Ottawa 67’s name Luca Pinelli as 20th captain in club history

For the first time in five years, the Ottawa 67’s will have a captain.

The Ontario Hockey league (OHL) organization announced on Sept. 28 that forward Luca Pinelli has been named the 67’s captain.

Pinelli is coming off of a season in which he helped the 67’s to a first-place finish, setting franchise records for wins, and points. He played in 67 games, scoring 29 goals and 34 assists, for 63 points, and earning an invite to the 2023 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Pinelli finished last season’s playoff run as the 67’s leading scorer, with 18 points in 11 games,

“Luca sets our culture, on and off the ice,” said 67’s head coach Dave Cameron. “He’s smart, mature, and displays tremendous work ethic. We are excited to have him lead our team, this season.”

Forwards Brady Stonehouse, and Will Gerrior will serve as alternate captains, alongside defencemen Matthew Mayich and Thomas Sirman.

The 67’s selected Pinelli with the second round, 28th overall pick in the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

He was taken in the fourth round, 114th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be named captain of such a storied organization,” Pinelli said. “It’s an honour, especially with the great group of guys that we have here. I’m looking forward to getting started on this season.”

Forwards Brady Stonehouse, and Will Gerrior will join defencemen Matthew Mayich, and Thomas Sirman as alternate captains for the upcoming season.
