OC Transpo and City implement more than half of recommendations from LRT inquiry

OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa have implemented more than half of the 103 recommendations from last fall’s light rail transit (LRT) according to a report.

The City formed a light rail sub-committee in April to in connection to the recommendations made by the LRT public inquiry which were released in November of last year.

There were 103 recommendations from the inquiry, and the City and OC Transpo have revealed that 56 of the recommendations have been implemented, with another 19 expected to be resolved by the end of this year.

The report, which was submitted by OC Transpo general manager Renée Amilcar las month, is scheduled to presented to Ottawa City Council this week.

According to the report, eight of the 103 recommendations fall outside the City’s jurisdiction.

The report also states that councillors have been briefed on the issues surrounding the wheel hub assemblies, which caused the LRT system to be shutdown earlier this year.

A root cause analysis report is going to be presented to the transit commission on Thursday, Oct. 12.
