The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) initiated a city-wide enforcement program on Friday, Oct. 13 resulting in a number of charges and tickets given to drivers.

Police officers handed out 54 tickets for speeding across Ottawa and five stunt driving charges in Kanata, Barrhaven and Orleans. One driver was clocked driving over 125 km/hr in a 60 km/h zone in Barrhaven and another was stopped for driving 135km/hr on 10th Line Rd. in Orleans.

The OPS gave 52 tickets for infractions like unsafe lane change, failing to wear a seatbelt,  excessive noise, distracted driving, expired plates and other offences.

Seven drivers received traffic tickets with court dates for more serious infractions such as driving with a suspended licence, falsified insurance documents, obstructed plates, and driving an unsafe vehicle.

During a R.I.D.E program in two locations, 53 roadside breath samples were also taken, resulting in one G2 driver having their licence suspended.
