Ottawa Hospital lifts ‘Code Orange’ at General Campus, emergency department re-opens

By Anil Jhalli

The ‘Code Orange’ that was in place at the Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus has been lifted after a transformer fire closed its emergency department on Friday, Oct. 27.

Lifting the ‘Code Orange’ notice means the General Campus’ emergency department has officially re-opened, is now taking patients and is back to regular operations.

About 100 people had to be relocated, including 17 neonatal ICU babies were moved from the eighth floor.

TOH officials said that the neonatal ICU babies are in the process of going back to the General Campus.

The hospital implemented a ‘Code Orange’ and asked patients to visit other emergency departments in the city.

Many surgeries, clinics and appointments at the hospital had to be rescheduled.
