Police seize weapon and fentanyl during dispute in Pembroke, two people facing charges

Two men are facing a number of charges after a dispute in Pembroke earlier this week.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to reports of a dispute taking place at a residence on Hincks Street in Pembroke on Nov. 7, just before 2:30 p.m.

Two individuals were arrested at the scene, and police seized a “prohibited edged weapon and suspected fentanyl during the course of the investigation.”

Jonathan Wayne Burgess, 45, of Pembroke is charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – fentanyl

Benjamin Dalton Leclaire, 27, also of Pembroke, has been charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Failure to comply with a prohibition order
  • Fail to comply with probation order – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – fentanyl

Both accused individuals were held for a bail hearing, and both remain in custody until their next appearance at Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Nov. 15, 2023.
