The driver of a dump truck that rolled into a marsh in Calabogie was helped out by a “quick thinking” neighbour and responding officers.

On Nov. 28 2023, members of the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Greater Madawaska Fire Department and Renfrew County EMS responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Barryvale Road, in Calabogie, Ontario. Police were advised that a dump truck lost control and rolled into the marsh.

A individual who was nearby went into the water, where the vehicle was partially submerged, and attempted to cut the trapped driver’s seatbelt.

OPP officers who arrived at the scene quickly jumped into the water to help the vehicle driver and the neighbour,

“Everyone worked together to quickly free the driver and get him to safety,” said the OPP in a release.

The driver and responding officers were transported to a local hospital by Renfrew County EMS.
