No injuries have been reported after Ottawa firefighters responded to an area in the city’s south end after a shipping container caught on fire.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) received a 9-1-1 call a 1:46 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 from someone “reporting a loud bang and a possible vehicle on fire” in the 4000 block of Leitrim Rd.

The caller later confirmed that a shipping container was on fire.

“Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed there were multiple exposures, including vehicles and other shipping containers, in close proximity to where the fire was,” OFS said on X.

Firefighters used saws to cut holes in the shipping containers in order to apply water.

Fire crews pulled out items from inside the containers (auto parts, appliances, garbage bags of clothes and other items) to make sure all the hot spots were extinguished.

OFS said the fire was brought under control just before 6 a.m.
