Winter of Wellness

By The City of Ottawa

With winter around the corner, it’s time to think about your plan for keeping your mind and body active and healthy in the new year.

There are so many options to consider whether you want to start a new hobby or take your artistic or fitness skills to the next level.

Improve your social well-being and mental health through yoga, Pilates, martial arts and other mindfulness practices.  Try a group sport, meet new people and learn leadership and fair play skills on and off the rink, court or field. Take fun to new heights by sharpening your skating, swimming, strength training, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing or racquet sport abilities.

Nurture your love of the arts through painting, dancing, music or cooking. And discover the professional arts programs that Shenkman Arts Centre and Nepean Visual Arts Centre have for children and adults.  Learn a variety of techniques painting with watercolours and acrylics or work with clay in a pottery class.

Explore the general interest activities for all ages.  Pre-schoolers and school aged children can play, explore and create in a variety of settings. And for adults and youth, find the inner author in yourself in a writing program or join a chess club.

If you want to stay active but can’t attend in person, check out one of the virtual programs. All you need is reliable internet and a computer or tablet. Choose from a wide range of virtual fitness, art, martial arts, cooking, junior science and technology programs for children and much more. Find the right balance you’re looking for.

With quality instructors, art studios, gyms, pools, rinks, equipment and other amenities you can count on the City of Ottawa for an enjoyable experience.
