Police lay charges against Ottawa man for child pornography, extortion offences

Police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old man from Ottawa for allegedly extorting a 17-year-old female from the United States for child pornography.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said its Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) started investigating the man in June of this year.

The man, Ryan Plascott, of Ottawa, was arrested on Nov. 30 with the help of the RCMP National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC).

Plascott is charged with:

  • Unlawfully possess child pornography
  • Extortion (two counts)

Investigators are asking that anyone who had interactions with the suspect, who used various  usernames online including, dylandawson8938, Alyssa-alyssagarne2160 and Tori-vicky_field4388,
to contact police.
