Police nab car thief after ‘proactive lookout’ in Kanata

Ottawa police were out patrolling an area in the city’s west end for potential car thieves Wednesday evening.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said on X, officers were out on a “proactive lookout” on Palladium Drive in Kanata on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

According to police, suspects were seen looking into vehicles that have been known to be targets of theft.

Police said after engaging with some suspects, some fled in a vehicle and others on foot. Officers pursued suspects who fled on foot, one who was found a nearby store.

A 27-year-old man from Anjou, Quebec was arrested and charged with possession of break-in instruments, attempted theft over $5,000, mischief and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and “will continue to proactively locate car thieves and hold them accountable.”
