Two drivers nabbed for excessive speeding in Gatineau

Two people are facing charges for speeding after two separate incidents in Gatineau.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, Sûreté du Québec police officers stopped a vehicle going 162 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 50 East.

The 20-year-old man from Ontario received a ticket totaling $1,255 and 14 demerit points for the violation and his license was suspended for seven days.

Then around 11:30 p.m. the same night, police attempted to stop a driver for travelling 226 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 50 East.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a short pursuit took place.

After trying to take the La Gappe exit, the driver lost control of their vehicle on the curve.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Val-des-Monts, was arrested and later released with a future court date in Gatineau.

He could face charges of dangerous driving and fleeing police and also received a $2,296 ticket and 30 demerit points. His license was also suspended for a period of seven days.
