Police charge 43-year-old man following fire in emergency department at TOH Civic Campus

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to a fire in the emergency department (ED) at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital (TOH).

Hospital officials declared a ‘Code Red’ at the Civic Campus due to the fire earlier in the day on Friday, Dec. 8.

According to a post on X, TOH officials said fire crews responded immediately and the fire was extinguished.

No injuries have been reported to any staff members and patients.

“Patients were moved to other areas and no staff or patient injuries have been reported,” TOH staff said.

That Ottawa Police Service (OPS) arson unit launched an investigation into the incident, have has since arrested and charged 43-year-old Jean François Lalonde with with arson endanger Life, arson to property, possess incendiary materials and breach of probation.
