There are no injuries following a fire on New Year’s Day in Barrhaven.
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a four-storey, multi-unit property in the 200 block of Kennevale Drive around 6:20 p.m. in Sunday, Jan 1.
Fire alarms triggered on the third floor were reported to OFS by a monitoring company for the building, which is both commercial and residential.
When crews arrived on scene, residents who had evacuated the building reported the smell of smoke on the third floor.
Firefighters quickly made their way up to the third floor and located the fire, which had started on a hot water tank.
The fire was declared under control within five minutes and firefighters confirmed there was no extension past the point of origin.
High pressured fans were used to ventilate any residual smoke from the building.
