A messy winter storm is moving into the province today, with weather alerts in place across a large swath of Ontario.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Ottawa and Smiths Falls.
The weather agency is calling for 10-20 cm of snow starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing into Wednesday.
There is also a possibility of some ice pellets and freezing rain late Tuesday, as well as blowing snow through the overnight.
You’re advised to be prepared for slippery roads and sidewalks and to adjust your driving to the conditions.
Environment Canada says the amount of snow will depend on how quickly precipitation changes to ice pellets or freezing rain.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they’re already responding to collisions leading into the city and are reminding the public to “slow down, leave extra time and space if you have to go somewhere.”
In response to the upcoming storm, the city of Ottawa posted on its website that they’re preparing and are “monitoring this major weather system and the transportation network closely.”
In the meantime, the city said their teams are going to continue clearing the snow and icy conditions leftover from yesterday.
