Applications for Community Economic Development grants now open

The city announced on Monday that nonprofits can now apply for the annual Community Economic Development Funding Program.

The program awards a total of $280,000 yearly, distributed among the proposals selected by a jury panel, and each successful applicant could receive between $5,000 and $100,000 according to the release.

According to the city, nonprofits that are starting projects focused on creating jobs, creating businesses and developing entrepreneurship and employability skills can benefit from the grants.

The city is asking applicants to demonstrate how their nonprofit will create jobs for Ottawa residents and benefit those who are under-represented in the mainstream economy, like lower income youth, new Canadians and racialized communities if they wish to be considered.

Successful applicants will need to spend the funds by by November 29 and submit reporting requirements by December 6.

Applications will stay open until Friday, February 9 at 4 p.m. and must be submitted through email. The city warns that late applications will not be considered.
