If you’re commuting through the southeast end of the capital next week, you could find your drive slowed down thanks to construction.
Starting Monday, work will begin to repair the underground watermains along Woodroffe Avenue from Slack Road to just north of Grenfell Crescent for the next eight weeks, according to a release by the city.
The construction is part of the Woodroffe Avenue Watermain Repair Project that was supposed to start in November, 2023 after the city found that sections of the watermain under the road needed to be replaced.
The southbound side of the road will be reduced to one lane during construction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until January 19.
Repair work will involve the excavation of the west shoulder and outer southbound lane of Woodroffe Avenue, replacement of sections of watermain, before rebuilding the road.
Signs will be in place to notify residents of the impacted area. While northbound and southbound lanes are under construction, the city said some delays and slowdowns should be expected while driving through the area.
The city is encouraging residents to consider alternate routes if possible.
