Senators shuffle goalie coaches, Peters replaces Bierk

The Ottawa Senators, long struggling to find a recipe for success in net, have replaced goalie coach Zac Bierk with Justin Peters, the club announced on Monday.
“Zac is exceptionally dedicated,” said GM Steve Staios. “However, it is our belief that the time has come for a fresh perspective. Justin Peters is highly regarded and will bring strong leadership qualities to our group. He’s deserving of this opportunity. We’re excited to welcome him to Ottawa.”
The Senators are 30th in the NHL in team goals-against average and last in save percentage.
Peters, 37, had previously been the goalie coach for the AHL Belleville Senators, where he’d been since Feb. 5, 2021. The Carolina Hurricanes’ second-round choice, 38th overall, in the 2004 NHL draft, Peters played 83 games in the NHL, compiling a 25-38-9 record to go with a 3.08 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
Bierk, 47, had been the Senators goalie coach since April 6, 2021. He was moved to a scouting role.
