Body found in OC Transpo bus, police investigating

A body was found by a transit employee at a bus garage in the city’s east end Wednesday morning.

The deceased was discovered after a bus returned to the St. Laurent garage at around 1:00 a.m., wrote Renée Amilcar, the general manager of OC Transpo in a statement to CityNews.

“Special Constables were contacted to assist the individual in getting to their destination or accessing other services,” Amilcar wrote. “Upon their arrival, they found the person unresponsive.”

They performed CPR on the individual until paramedics arrived. However, emergency crews were unable to revive the person.

“The entire OC Transpo team is saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual,” Amilcar added.

She said that the St. Laurent garage was closed for several hours overnight during the on-site police investigation.

“OC Transpo adjusted bus parking and refueling to other garages and bus service began as normal this morning,” Amilcar wrote.

Ottawa police said in a statement that the matter is under investigation pending an update from the coroner’s office.

OPS have not released any other details on the deceased.
