Crash on Highway 7 lands 4 in jail for dozens of drug and gun charges

Police charged four men after a car crash led to dozens of gun and drug charges in Addington Highlands Township.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they responded to a car crash on Highway 7 just after 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

Police said the vehicle slipped off the highway just east of Kellar Road and hit a guard rail. Four men were in the vehicle and no injuries were reported.

OPP said they noticed the smell of cannabis and alcohol from the vehicle.

Police searched the vehicle and found open alcohol, a loaded hand gun and what appeared to be drugs.

Items seized from the vehicle. Police say they found about 7 pills of suspected codeine, 5.14 grams of suspected methamphetamines, 80.07 grams of suspected cocaine and 11.92 grams of suspected fentanyl. Photo provided by OPP.

Police arrested Isaiah Banton, 23, Clive Ferguson, 54, Hamad Shomari, 30, and David Juaja, 32.

Officers charged them with dozens of drug and weapons related offenses.

The group was held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date.

On Tuesday, police also caught an Ottawa driver with drugs after crashing their vehicle.

“This is another great example of teamwork leading to safer communities,” said OPP Constable David Yome.

“If you observe any suspicious activity, please report it immediately to police. Together, we can keep our communities safe.”
