No injuries after kitchen fire in Kanata townhome

There are no injuries after a kitchen fire in Kanata.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a two-storey attached townhome in the 100 block of Castle Glen Crescent around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21.

OFS had received a 9-1-1 call from the homeowner reporting a kitchen fire that had spread to the cabinets.

The caller also informed dispatch that everyone had safety exited the building.

Fire crews were on scene within five minutes of being dispatched and confirmed black smoke coming from the front door on arrival.

A working fire was declared and additional rigs responded to the scene.

Firefighters entered the home and were met with low visibility due to thick smoke, but were still able to locate and quickly extinguish the flames.

The fire was under control at 8:46 p.m., 13 minutes after crews arrived.

Firefighters also disconnected the stove and brought it outside for safety and found no fire extension in the wall or ceiling above there stove area.

Five tenants and four guests have been displaced by the fire due to the amount of smoke and firefighters helped those affected collect their belongings before clearing the scene.
