A garage fire in Stittsville has left four people without a place to stay.
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a two-storey home in the 600 block of Rouncey Road around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21 after a 9-1-1 call from the owner.
Firefighters were on scene within four minutes and confirmed smoke coming from the front of the home.
A working fire was declared in order to dispatch additional resources to the scene and crews began a fast attack with a hose line through the home and into the garage.
A secondary crew began a search for any occupants inside the structure, and just before 7 p.m. it was confirmed there was no one inside the home.
The fire was declared under control at 7:05 p.m. and high pressurized fans were then used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the home.
OFS says their dispatcher did an excellent job of staying on the line with the 9-1-1 caller to keep them calm and guide them and their family to a neighbour’s house.
There are no injuries reported but two adults and two children have been displaced.
A fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin.
