Kanata house fire leaves 9 people displaced

An evening house fire in the capital’s west end left nine people displaced thanks to heavy smoke.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said they received a call at around 8:30 p.m. about a kitchen fire in the 100 block of Castle Glen Crescent on Sunday.

Fire crews arrived on scene and said heavy black smoke was coming out of the front door. All the occupants had already left the building.

Firefighters said the smoke was so heavy, it was hard to see but had the blaze under control within 15 minutes of arriving on scene.

OFS said a stove was burning and had to be brought out of the home after it was extinguished.

Fire crews had to use high pressurized fans to ventilate the residual smoke out of the buildings.

OFS said five tenants and four guests will be displaced because of the heavy amount of smoke in the home.

No injuries were reported.
