A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been brought back to Ontario from Calgary.
Members of Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) travelled to Calgary, Alberta, to return William Litwinowich, 37, to Brockville.
The Brockville man was wanted by police after failing to appear in court on charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with intent to resist arrest.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Jan. 17, 2021 in Township of Front of Yonge, in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
According to the OPP, the accused failed to appear in court in Brockville in September 2022 and Bench Warrant — later a Canada-wide warrant — was issued.
On Jan. 4, 2024, the Calgary Police Service notified the OPP that they had the individual in custody. OPP Emergency Response Team members travelled to Calgary and brought the accused back to Brockville on Jan. 10.
Litwinowich now faces the following additional charges:
- Failure to attend court after having appeared
- Failure to comply with undertaking (three counts)
The accused was remanded into custody and later released with conditions.
Litwinowich’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2024 in Brockville.
