Ottawa police searching for Carlingwood purse snatcher

Police are asking the public for help identifying the man responsible for robbing two elderly women in Ottawa’s west end.

Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said the two robberies happened in the 2100 block of Carling Avenue on Jan. 26.

Police said the man approached an elderly woman loading her vehicle in a parking lot at around 4:45 p.m. and ripped her purse off her arm. Less than 30 minutes after, he returned and robbed another woman before running away.

Neither of the victims were injured.

Police described the suspect as about 30 years old, between five-foot-eight and five-foot-ten with and average build and facial hair.

Police said he also has a noticeable scar on the right side of his neck.

He was last seen wearing black jeans, a black jacket with red inside and a red hat. Police said he was also carrying a reusable shopping bag.
