Dead body found after gunshots heard in west end, Ottawa police looking for witnesses

Police said they’re investigating a shooting and a death in the city’s west end early Monday morning but aren’t sure if the two are connected.

Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said they responded to reports of gunshots heard on First Line Road at around 12:45 a.m.

Police found bullet holes in one of the residences windows. They also found a victim with injuries not far from the shooting, who emergency crews transported to hospital.

OPS did not specify their injuries but said they were “not from a shooting”.

Police then found a crashed vehicle nearby with a dead man near it along with a pair of discarded firearms.

They have not determined the cause of death yet, nor do they know if the two incidents are related.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the OPS at 613-236-1222, extension 2666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
