Two still missing after falling through ice on Charleston Lake fishing trip

Police said a fishing trip may have turned deadly when two people fell through the ice on a lake southwest of the capital.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they received a call shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday about three people who fell through the ice during a fishing trip on Charleston Lake. Police said one managed to pull themselves out of the freezing waters.

The other two are still missing as of Monday afternoon.

Police said emergency crews are working with Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton for the search-and-rescue effort.

The OPP urges the public to stay off any frozen bodies of water.

“No ice is safe ice, especially during this extraordinarily mild winter,” said police.

If you have any information pertaining to the missing persons, please contact the OPP non-emergency line at 1 (888) 310-1122.

This is an ongoing story. More to come.
