OPS investigating shots fired at west-end elementary school

Ottawa police are investigating a report of gunshots fired at a west end Catholic elementary school.

There were reports of gunfire at St. Daniels Elementary School on Sunday evening, according to Counc. Laine Johnson on a social media post.

Ottawa Police said they were called to the school at 7:15 p.m. and found multiple shell casings.

Police said no injuries were reported.

According to a letter sent by school principal Mark Kennedy to families on Monday morning, someone damaged the school’s fence.

Kennedy was also advised by police that it was safe to open the school.

“Our students will be supported as needed if they are upset by the events last night in their neighbourhood,” wrote Kennedy, adding that safety for students and staff are the school’s top priority.
