14-year-old to face consequences for threatening to use firearm at Pembroke high school

A 14-year-old will be facing consequences stemming from a threat made at a Pembroke high school.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say on Tuesday, the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP received reports of a threat to use a firearm at a local high school.

Through the officers’ investigation that evening, they identified the teen and found they did not have access to a gun. At first, police say the suspect did not appear to “grasp the seriousness of the comments” that sparked the call to police.

The teen from Pembroke will have threatening charges diverted and face Extra Judicial Measures in compliance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Parents of the 14-year-old were notified and the name of the youth can not be released under the YCJA.

Similarly, earlier this week, provincial police say they charged a 17-year-old after a weapons-related offence.

Police say they arrested a 17-year-old and charged them with using an imitation firearm while committing an offence, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
