Ottawa firefighters quickly contain east end commercial fire

There are no injuries after a fire in a commercial complex in Ottawa’s east end.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a one-storey meat shop in the 2300 block of St. Laurent Boulevard shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported black smoke coming from the roof of the building and a working fire was declared in order to dispatch more resources to the scene.

Firefighters were on scene in less than five minutes and forced entry into the store.

One fire crew began a search for occupants while a second crew evacuating all other units due to smoke throughout the commercial complex.

Firefighters quickly knocked down flames near the kitchen area of the store and the fire was declared under control by 5:45 p.m., within ten minutes of crews arriving on scene

Firefighters completed two full searches of the unit and no occupants were found.

The fire was contained to the unit of origin and none of the attached units were affected.

A fire investigator has been dispatched to determine the cause and origin.
