Ottawa firefighters rescue trapped driver at east-end crash that left 6 injured

Firefighters safely extricated a trapped driver early Wednesday morning after a head-on collision in the city’s southeast end injured six people.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) say that at around 8:15 a.m., Ottawa Police called in the fire department to help at a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ramsayville and Russell Roads.

OFS arrived on scene and confirmed one of the drivers was trapped in their vehicle.

They say firefighters stabilized the vehicle before beginning the extrication process.

“Firefighters used specialized tools to open the door and remove the centre b-post from the vehicle to create more space to remove the driver,” wrote OFS on X. “At [8:44 a.m.], the driver was safely extricated from the vehicle.”

Ottawa Paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says that three adults and three children were taken to hospital.

One adult and one child are in serious, but non-life threatening, condition.
